About
Biography

Daisy Velasco (b.1998, La Puente, CA) received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University, Long Beach. She is influenced by contemporary figurative artists dealing with psychological drama and domesticity. In her narrative paintings, Velasco draws from the emotions evoked from chaotic home environments, where disruption, abuse, and male domination are common. As a response to these feelings, Velasco’s compositions contain disembodied figures, harsh lighting, and theatrical atmospheres. To draw attention to gender inequality, the characters in her paintings vary in opacity. Her painterly narratives capture the negative emotions caused by patriarchal structures.

Velasco is an oil painter whose practice is centered around depicting her personal experiences, storytelling of other women who share the life of domestic disruption, and traditional values. Her art practice reflects the deep roots of being a Mexican American by bridging the generational gap and the underrepresented community.
